I ran across the new Flogging Molly album today, as a way of getting over that I’m too poor to see them in concert. It’s available from Sanity.com.au, or from any decent store.
-Requiem for a Dying Song
-Paddy’s Lament
-Float
-You wont make a fool out of me
-Lightning Storm
-Punch Drunk Grinning Soul
-We of Lesser Gods
-Between a man and a woman
-On the back of a broken dream
-Man with no country
It’s a slightly different sound, and you can hear it in the new recording of Between a man and woman, previously only available on the original Alive behind the Green Door album. But when you think about it, that’s 11 years difference. It’s more refined and uses the broad range of instruments better, rather than loud and heavy. Personally I like loud and heavy, but that’s what Drunken Lullabies and Within a mile of Home are for aren’t they?
The title song, Float, is an interesting spin. And it’s definitely a spin – I listened to it while I was working on my assignment at 1AM, and found myself singing the few words I remembered all the next day. It’s nice to have in the background, but the closest this album comes to yelling at you is in Requiem for a Dying Song.
Pick it up and see how you like it, personally I think it’s pretty good. Screaming at the Wailing Wall is one of my favorite songs, and it continues on in that sort of vein. It’ll grow on you.
If you like it, pick up Alive Behind the Green Door, Swagger, Drunken Lullabies, and Within a mile of home too.
