About me

Full name: Alexander John Bishop-Thorpe
Date of birth: July 18th, 1989

There we go. I originally started this blog in early 2008 with the intention of talking about my time studying at the South Australian School of Art, but I didn’t really update it too often. Well, about three years later, I’ve now finished my Bachelor’s degree. This blog is now, predictably, about all the stuff that comes after. What happens to artists after they graduate? Well, generally they go and get real jobs. I’ve decided I’m going to try to art.

So far as that goes, I like to take photos. I majored in Photography but Minored in Printmaking, and my work crosses over between the two quite often. I love the mechanical, tactile aspects of printmaking in combination with Photography. I have a thing about documenting, but I’m not sure if that’s for art’s sake or just a compulsion. I like machines and I’m interested in the effects mechanisation has on how we get on in the world, with ourselves and eachother. Authors like Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams inform my work, photographers like W. Eugene Smith, Ricky Maynard, Walker Evans and William Christenberry influence it. I have a thing about aeroplanes and whales.
